30. The Pursuit Of Happiness
Verse Of The Day: May 30
1 John 4:18 NLT
“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.”
I guess it is completely normal to freak out and tighten up when driving your car a police car pulls up behind you. It's the fear of punishment that will do it to you.
But you have nothing to worry about if you are doing nothing wrong. I was pulled over this morning for a random breath test with my son in the car. He was excited to see what we had to do. Neither of us were worried because I had not been drinking.
Living life right allows you to not worry about judgment. But how how do you live free from the judgment of sin when everyone has sinned?
When a person turns back to God and commits to a daily walk with Jesus, two things happen. Firstly, your sins are forgiven and you are made right with God. Secondly, your daily walk causes you to turn from things that separate you from God and you embark on a friendship that is fueled by His love for you.
This perfect love drives out all fear of punishment because you begin to understand you're only forgiven by what Jesus did and by your good merit. This love motivates you to live right and pursue Him for all eternity.
Am I afraid of God's great judgment day?
Father God, I know You will judge both the living and the dead and one day I will also stand before Your throne. But I am right with You because of my trust in Jesus. You have forgiven me and I now live in Your perfect love. Amen.
