21. Choose Your Ownership
Verse Of The Day: May 21
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
One of the mindsets that rages against Christianity is the independent one. We want to be our own person and have control of our own lives.
The irony of striving to be independent is that we can't control much in our society, much less our own desires and thoughts. We are bombarded with images and slogans that all help to make us highly impressionable. It's easy to be walking down a path that we never intended to go.
It can be quite confronting when the bible says that God owns you. His death was the ultimate price for your freedom. How can I be free if God owns me, you ask?
Most of us are ruled by attitudes, wrong beliefs, limiting mindsets and habits or perspectives that sabotage our future. Can you now see how funny it is to be concerned about being ruled by God instead?
The main difference with God ruling your life is that His desire is to bring you into a wide open spacious environment and help you fulfill your highest potential. Your body is now a temple for God to dwell in by His Spirit, a place where He wants to see you flourish.
The context of this passage is a warning against sexual sin because it changes you and traps you. All sin is a rulership issue that needs to be mastered if you want to experience freedom. Only in Jesus can you experience freedom from sin.
Am I truly free enough to surrender everything to Jesus?
Jesus, You have provided a way for me to honour You with my body and not be stuck in sin. Help me and lead me to deeper levels of surrender. Amen.
