12. My Assignment
Verse Of The Day: May 12
Acts 20:24 NLT
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”
So many people spend their whole life trying to achieve a goal that has no eternal significance. This doesn't mean every person needs to work in a church or that your job should somehow be related to church work.
But what is your life's purpose? Why do you think you are here? I believe God has something for everyone to do in this life. Most of this could easily be generally speaking but many times it is specific.
We get confused between the job or career we need to contribute to in this life, and the purpose God has for us to participate in this life.
Someone who is a builder / carpenter has a career and should contribute these skills to this life. In other words, live in a way that makes the earth a better place for all. But this carpenter might also have a purpose in this life where they participate with God on something.
Your purpose might be to raise a godly family, solve world hunger, plant a church or help fund God's mission in some specific way.
Regardless of our jobs and careers and the kingdom activity we are involved in, each of us must realise we are responsible for getting the message of Jesus out to friends, family and neighbours alike. We cannot live for ourselves. We are all part of God's great mission in the earth, to save humanity.
Do I feel a sense of God's pleasure about what I contribute and how I participate in this life?
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me new life and a chance to live the rest of my days for You. Help me not to be more focused on my work than the work You have for me to do. Give me favour at work so I can participate with Your plans for humanity. Amen.
