Social Media - FOMO
There are all kinds of fears in the world and it seems popular to keep coming up with new ones. Who knows, there may even be a fear of not knowing all the fears!
Fear is a natural human emotion to a stimulus that threatens our safety or well being. But, over exaggerated, fear can cripple you.
Fear makes your world smaller and darker. It isolates you and eventually leaves you alone. Relationally speaking, fear becomes the wedge that keeps away the very people we need to help us.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
I am always challenged at why I need the approval of others so much when I have the approval of One greater than all others!
FOMO is the fear of missing out. And in a world that is always on, always connected we seem to be more addicted to knowing what's going on than ever before.
Social media could be a key contributor? Technology is brilliant while it aids your progress and brings efficiency and effectiveness to your life but, like all things, technology is a tool that mostly reveals what is already happening on the inside of us!
Somewhere philosophically deep on the inside, social media is revealing a human desperation to be loved and accepted. We have become obsessed with what others think about us and why they don't (think about us) if they don't!
Maybe we should call it Social MEdia because after all it mainly is all about ME.. What you think about me. What I think about what you think about me. And if you're not thinking about me, let me tell you what I think about me and see if that helps you think about me!
So in our quest for global connectivity and international relationships can we just be a little more cautious of the strong universal rip tide that FOMO (fear of missing out) is enhancing on a platform of Social MEdia!
