A Mother's Voice
I think everyone has a story about how they can hear their mothers voice in their head. It's somehow a moral guide that saves us in the heat of the moment. Areas of conduct, little adjustments of character and the subtle ways of wisdom are marked in the repetitive voice of those who have gone before us.
The idea is to stay the path, and not stroll off into any area that is destructive. It's the parental guidance (Mother's voice) that saves us the pain we have not yet learned from a wrong turn. I mean who really wants to have to learn from making a wrong turn, especially when the love of a parent could help give direction in an area you might not have travelled before?
"My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck." (Proverbs 6:20-21 NLT)
As we get older we become impressed by many others and the inner voice competes for the attention of others. Now as a parent, I am very aware that I am not the only voice in my children's life. And as they grow older, I am not the loudest voice on their path.
I guess I just need to be a repetitive voice, a consistent voice. A voice that has been tried and tested and proving helpful and life giving. Julia has always been this kind of mother to our kids.
Words of life become a compass of clarity!
